Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the service take?

This depends on the size of your driveway and the amount of prep work and crack filling it requires. Generally speaking a service will not take more than 1-2 hours.

How long do I need to stay off of my driveway?

You will need to keep your vehicles off of the driveway for 1-2 days. You will be able to walk on the driveway after 4-6 hours of direct sun light.

Do I need to be home at the time of service?

No you do not need to be home. We offer online payment options or you can always leave payment at your residence. We just ask that all of your belongings (planters, basketball hoops, firewood) are off of the driveway prior to our arrival.

What if there is rain in the forecast?

We schedule dates tentatively and monitor the weather constantly. We would not perform the work if we did not believe it would cure before precipitation. We dont want to do it twice! With that being said any unexpected weather issues would be fixed immediately.

I HAVE TIRE MARKS AFTER I USED THE DRIVEWAY!

This is perfectly normal and the tire marks will wear away after the sealer fully cures. This can take up to 30 days. Don't worry!

Johnson Seal Coating provides a text or email notification with a service date. In this there is a link to pay online with any major credit card. We also accept cash and check at the time of service. We also now accept Venmo payments.

Johnson Seal Coating will fill any major cracks that will affect the integrity of the asphalt surface through out its service life.  However every crack may not be filled.

How long does it take to fully cure?

Although the sealer is dry to the touch in 4 hours and dry enough to drive on in 24 hours, it is not fully cured for approximately 30 days.

Can I walk on my driveway the same day?

Yes, however we suggest using the common sense approach. Areas of your driveway that are shaded all day take longer to cure than areas exposed to direct

sunlight. After 4-6 hours the driveway should be dry enough to resume foot traffic.

Will there be overspray on my garage, sidewalk, etc?

No! Johnson Seal Coating prides itself on providing the highest quality of service, which includes a completely clean application. We take extra care in avoiding any overspray.

Do you barricade the driveway?

Yes we provide a barricade and a lawn sign!

How long will the sealer last on my driveway?

Our product lasts anywhere from 2-5 years. The service life depends on the amount of traffic, number of times the surface has been sealed and the level of harsh weather it experiences. We stand behind our sealer for a period of two years.

How often should my driveway be seal coated?

We suggest every 2-3 years to maintain the asphalt properly.

When is the best time of year to seal coat?

I recently had construction at my house, can I seal coat right away?

If you recently had heavy machinery tracking mud across the asphalt or if you’ve had stone, mulch or dirt delivered it is best to wait several weeks before seal coating. This ensures the asphalt is clean enough for the sealer to adhere property.

My driveway has previous sealer peeling off of the surface, what do I do?

Unfortunately this occurs when your driveway has been sealed to much! Applying layer after layer of sealer never allows the older sealer to wear from the surface. This creates a hard coating on top of the asphalt that eventually cracks and chips away. The best practice is to have your driveway sealed every 2-3 years.

How late in the year can I seal coat my driveway?

We always try to have our season finished before Halloween. Why? There are several factors including leaves falling from trees onto the surface, overnight temperatures dropping and our machines lines hardening from the lower temperatures. This obviously all depends on the fall season we experience.

What is the best method of seal coating my asphalt? Spray or brush?

At Johnson Seal Coating we are experts at several different methods of application. Our specialty is spraying sealer, but we also offer brush applications. Although spraying sealer is given a bad name by “fly by night” contractors, a properly applied sprayed coat will outlast a brushed coat. This is due to more product being left on the surface than brushing. It also provides a seamless finished product with no brush marks. In reality the best method is what you as the customer prefers
